FAQ

SpenceCo questions

What does a typical whole-home system include?+

A whole-home carbon filtration system and a true ion-exchange water softener, professionally installed, with basic installation materials. Three months of White Glove Service and a free in-home water test are included. Under-sink reverse osmosis is optional and priced separately. Installed quotes assume a standard installation path unless we note otherwise.

What is a standard installation?+

A typical single-family home where we can place the equipment at the incoming water line, make a normal plumbing connection, tie in a drain, and power the softener valve—usually in a garage or utility space. Extra plumbing, electrical, outdoor pads, or non-standard materials are quoted before installation.

Is the in-home water test really free?+

Yes. It is the first step, not a prepaid credit. You are not obligated to buy a system after the test.

Do you serve Palm Beach County and Broward County?+

Yes. We serve Palm Beach County and every incorporated municipality in Broward County, including western communities. That confirms geographic coverage, not a guaranteed appointment time or identical installation pricing for every property. If you are unsure, request the test and we will confirm whether we can visit.

Is reverse osmosis included?+

No. Reverse osmosis is an optional under-sink upgrade for drinking water, priced separately.

Is this the same as a salt-free water conditioner?+

No. The softener in this package is a true ion-exchange system. Salt-free conditioners are a different process and are not the same as softening.

Will this remove every contaminant in my water?+

No. Carbon filtration is used for chlorine taste and odor and related aesthetic issues. Softening addresses hardness minerals. Reverse osmosis is a separate drinking-water process. No system on this site is described as removing every contaminant.

Do you treat well water?+

Yes. SpenceCo provides residential well-water filtration and softening. Recommendations depend on testing and installation needs, and well systems are quoted separately from municipal recommendations.

What is the difference between a water softener and a water filter?+

A carbon filter is used for chlorine taste and odor and related aesthetic issues. A true softener uses ion exchange to reduce hardness minerals. They solve different problems and are often installed together.

How do I know if I have hard water?+

Common signs include white spots on glass and chrome, soap that does not lather well, film on shower doors, and scale around fixtures. An in-home test measures hardness at your tap rather than guessing from neighborhood rumors.

Do Palm Beach County homes usually need a softener?+

Many municipal homes in Palm Beach County and Broward County show hardness that benefits from true ion-exchange softening, but the right answer depends on your water and how the house is used. We confirm that during the free water test.

What causes white spots on glassware and fixtures?+

Hardness minerals left behind when water evaporates are a common cause indoors. Softening reduces new spotting on fixtures and glass; existing scale is not erased overnight. Coastal outdoor glass can still collect salt air separately from hard water.

Should I choose whole-house treatment or reverse osmosis?+

Whole-house carbon and softening treat water for showers, laundry, and most taps. Reverse osmosis is point-of-use at a kitchen faucet for drinking and cooking. Many homes use both; RO does not replace whole-home treatment.

What is activated carbon filtration?+

Activated carbon is a common media for improving chlorine-related taste and odor in municipal water. Whole-home carbon treats the incoming line so every fixture shares that filtered supply. Media selection is confirmed after testing.

Does a water softener need salt?+

Yes. A true ion-exchange softener regenerates with salt or potassium chloride in a brine tank. Salt use depends on hardness, household water use, and system settings.

Why does my well water smell like rotten eggs?+

A sulfur or “rotten egg” odor is a common well-water complaint and is a different issue from hardness or chlorine taste. Treatment depends on testing. SpenceCo can evaluate household well-water treatment options.

What is short cycling on a well pressure tank?+

Short cycling is when a well pump turns on and off more often than it should, often tied to pressure-tank or control issues. SpenceCo currently focuses on household water treatment at the taps rather than well-pump or pressure-tank contracting.

How is municipal water different from well water?+

Municipal water is typically treated and disinfected by a utility. Private well water is untreated at the source and varies by property. SpenceCo’s personalized recommendation is for typical municipal homes; well systems are tested and quoted separately.

How does a whole-home water system work?+

Equipment sits on the incoming water line—usually in a garage or utility space—so treated water feeds the house. A carbon tank and softener each do a specific job. Bypass valves allow service without shutting water off at the street.

What is White Glove Service?+

It is SpenceCo’s system care after installation: four scheduled quarterly visits, included salt supply/delivery/refill for eligible softeners during those visits, basic water and eligible air-system checks, and eligible 10% member discounts. Qualifying new system installation includes 3 months.

Is White Glove a warranty?+

White Glove adds one year of SpenceCo installation-workmanship coverage while qualifying membership remains active and in good standing during year two, up to two years total from original installation completion. It does not extend manufacturer equipment warranties. Cancellation never shortens the original one-year workmanship warranty. Re-enrollment does not automatically restore lapsed extended coverage.

Can I continue White Glove after three months?+

Yes. After the included 3 months, White Glove is available at $39/month only if you choose to continue and authorize recurring membership. Four scheduled service visits per year (quarterly); monthly billing does not mean a visit every month. Exact enrollment and billing details are confirmed with SpenceCo.

What does the monthly plan include?+

Quarterly Care: Four scheduled service visits per year. Salt Included: Salt supplied, delivered and refilled as reasonably needed during scheduled quarterly visits for eligible covered softening equipment. Water System Check: Basic operation, salt/brine condition, visible leaks/connections and general equipment condition, with a basic water-performance check where appropriate. Water + Air Care: A basic operational/condition check of eligible SpenceCo air-purification equipment during scheduled quarterly visits. 10% Member Savings: 10% off eligible replacement water filters, replacement air-purification filters, additional products/equipment and well service while membership is active and in good standing. Extended Workmanship Protection: One additional year of SpenceCo workmanship coverage while qualifying membership remains active and in good standing during year two, up to 2 years total from original installation completion. Manufacturer warranties remain separate. Four scheduled quarterly visits are included, not unlimited visits or on-demand salt delivery. Replacement filters are discounted, not free. Extra service, parts and consumables are not automatically included.

Are well pump, drilling, or pressure-tank services available now?+

SpenceCo currently focuses on household well-water filtration and softening. Regulated water-well contracting is not publicly offered on this site.

Is SpenceCo a licensed water well contractor?+

SpenceCo does not claim licensed water well contractor status on this site.

What well-related work does SpenceCo offer today?+

Today SpenceCo provides residential well-water filtration and softening for the water entering the home. That is treatment of household water—not well drilling, pump repair, or irrigation sprinkler installation.

Do you install irrigation sprinkler systems?+

No. SpenceCo does not advertise sprinkler-system installation, sprinkler heads, irrigation zones, or landscape irrigation design.

Can I still get help with well-water quality?+

Yes. Schedule a free in-home water test and note that you are on a private well. Filtration and softening recommendations are based on testing and installation needs, and are quoted separately from municipal recommendations.

Where can I read more about water treatment topics?+

See the SpenceCo Resources learning center for articles on hardness, filtration, softeners, well water, and related homeowner questions.
