Neighborhood rumors vs. your plumbing
People in Boca, Delray, Boynton, and Jupiter often assume “everyone has hard water here.” Hardness is common enough that the softener conversation comes up frequently—but city limits and HOA names do not measure milligrams per liter at your kitchen sink.
Municipal utilities treat and deliver water within standards. Treatment for disinfection is not the same as softening. You can have properly treated city water and still see spots on glass and scale on fixtures.
When softening is usually worth discussing
If you see recurring white spots indoors, soap that struggles to lather, or scale building on faucets and shower glass, a true ion-exchange softener is often the right equipment conversation. Softening reduces new hardness deposits; it does not instantly remove years of scale already inside an old heater or valve.
Condos and some townhomes cannot always place whole-home tanks on a shared or inaccessible main. In those cases we say so and talk about what is realistic—sometimes under-sink RO for drinking water rather than a garage softener.
How SpenceCo answers the question
We assess treatment-relevant conditions at the home, look at installation space, and explain whether softening, carbon filtration, both, or neither fits. A typical municipal recommendation assumes a standard single-family install on city water. Wells and non-standard plumbing are quoted separately.
